# Connecting Google Tag Manager

[Google Tag Manager](https://marketingplatform.google.com/about/tag-manager/) is a tool that allows you to manage tags (such as measurement and marketing optimization JavaScript tags) on the website.

Follow the instructions below to connect Google Tag Manager to your site.

### Step 1. Accessing Google Tag Manager ID

1. For that, open [Google Marketing Platform](https://tagmanager.google.com/#/home) and click **Start for free** to create your new Google Tag Manager account:

2. Click on **Create account** in the opened window:

3. Fill in the fields with the information about your company — add the domain name, choose the **Web** as a target platform and click **Create**:

4. Copy your **Google Tag Manager ID** in the format **GTM-XXXXXXX** in the pop-up window:

... or you can find it at the top right corner of your dashboard:

### Step 2. Connecting Google Tag Manager

1. Open the **Settings** of your site and navigate to the **Analytics** tab:

2. Click on the **Google Tag Manager** tab and paste the requested ID in the corresponding field:

3. Click **Connect **and [publish your site](/en-us/article/publishing-a-site-tgxmch/) for the changes to appear live.
