Managing columns

The vast majority of blocks in the editor use columns to arrange elements. They help you conveniently organize content within a block and place elements one below the other.
In this article, we’ll explain how to work with columns and set them up.

Block Sections

Columns are arranged in block sections — separate rows positioned one below the other. There are three sections available: top, middle, and bottom. Each of these sections can have a maximum of eight columns and a minimum of one.

Click the gear icon to open the block settings, where you can manage their visibility — specifically, which sections are shown or hidden in the block:

Note: Hiding a section is not the same as deleting it. If certain content is temporarily irrelevant for you, you can hide the corresponding section and reactivate it in the future—the columns, elements, and content added earlier will be preserved.

Tip: In collection blocks, the middle section will consist of interconnected items which have the same structure (set of elements) but different content. You can learn more about working with this type of block in the article

Managing columns

Adding columns to a block

Hover over the edge of the current column and click Add Column:

If there are multiple columns in a section, you can adjust their width: to do this, hover over the empty space between the columns, click and hold the divider, and drag it in the desired direction:

To swap columns or move a column to another section, hover over the column, click the move icon, and drag it to the desired location:

Note: It’s not possible to move a column to another block.

Important: You cannot freely position columns within a block. Use the Flex block to place elements without being tied to the standard block or column structure (grid).

You can delete or duplicate an entire column by clicking the three dots in the upper-right corner:

Tip: In this menu, you can also paste a copied element inside the column. Learn more about copying elements in our article.

Column settings

To open a column’s settings, hover over it and click the gear icon in the upper-right corner:

In the Layout tab, you can:

Note: This setting applies to all columns in the section.

Tip: For Text elements, you can set custom alignment that may differ from the column settings. The article Managing the Text element describes the available settings for this element.

Set vertical and horizontal paddings between elements and the column edges ③

Note: For certain templates/blocks, the “Style” option may also be available when the column background is enabled: it allows you to apply a specific predefined column styling template, such as rounded corners or shadows.

Go to the Background tab to set a color or image as the column background:

When you add a photo as a background, new editing options will become available—for example, applying a filter or color:

Note: It is not possible to add a video as a column background.

In the Style tab, you can set the desired corner radius for your column and enable outlines and shadows:
