Adding subdomains

A subdomain is a part of the main domain, but it remains independent. Subdomains are created to organize and navigate to different sections of your website — for example, creating a multilingual site, storing a blog, etc. This way, you can create an online eCommerce store and place it under the subdomain store.yoursite.com, where yoursite.com is a root domain, and store is a subdomain name.

Note: There's no way to connect subdomain to a separate page of your site. All connected subdomains will point to the homepage.

There are two different ways to connect a subdomain, depending on who is managing a root domain.

Adding subdomains to a domain managed by Weblium

If you've purchased a domain directly from Weblium, or connect your existing domain via NS method, all further actions should be done in your account.

Before you proceed, bear in mind that:

creating subdomains can be possible only if the status of your domain is marked as "Connected" in the settings.
Subdomains can be created only as an A record that points to an IP address.
You can add multiple subdomains to your root domain.
A subdomain can be up to 63 characters long, including the main domain length.
There is no possibility to add multiple levels of subdomains, such as info.blog.yoursite.com.

To add a subdomain, open the Settings of your site and navigate to the Domains tab:

Hover over your domain, click on the three dots in the corner and choose Manage DNS Records option in the drop-down menu:

In the new window click on the Add new DNS record:

Select the A type for your record, enter the subdomain name in the Host field and point it to the needed IP-address:

The Host field should contain only the subdomain without the "root" domain name. For example, if you want to add drafts.yoursite.com subdomain, where yoursite.com is the main domain, you should enter only drafts in the Host name.

Note: If you want to point your subdomain to our platform, enter the following value: 35.187.82.108. After that, connect a subdomain in the site's settings according to the instructions in the Connecting a domain you own article.

Click Save and let the records pass the propagation period.

Important: It may take up to 24-48 hours for the records to propagate worldwide. This is a standard process applicable to all domains (including the subdomains). During this time, the connection may not be stable, or the site may not be available on all devices.

Adding subdomains to a domain managed by a third-party provider

If you're managing your domain via a third-party platform — for example, GoDaddy, NameCheap, Cloudfare, etc — you should create a subdomain on the side of the relevant service. For that, contact the support of the service you're using or search for the guides in their Help Center.

If you want to connect an external subdomain to a site on Weblium, you should point it to our platform via A record.

Log in to your account on the side of your domain's registrar.

Navigate to the DNS dashboard of your domain and add the A record with the following value: 35.187.82.108.

Save the changes and connect a domain in the site's settings on Weblium. For more information, visit the Connecting a domain you own article.
