Site loading speed

Website loading speed is one of the key factors that help you increase conversions and attract traffic. Weblium is constantly improving the speed of website visualization to provide you with the best user experience. However, there are some external factors that can affect the time it takes for your website to load.

Before you get started, keep in mind that site speed can be affected by:

browser cache;
your Internet connection (for example, a site may load slower on 3G than with Wi-Fi);
the device you are browsing on (for example, older phones load the site slower than newer phones);
custom codes - widgets, analytics, CSS (attached either through site settings or by using an inline code block in the editor);
videos and heavy images (mostly placed on the homepage and at the top of the page, because then they are loaded during the opening of the site);
outdated blocks;
heavy fonts;
browser extensions.

You can evaluate your site performance on various page speed checkers. The most popular checkers are Google PageSpeed Insights, YSlow and GTmetrix

If the result you receive is unsatisfactory, please view the following steps below.

Troubleshooting problems with site loading speed

Clear your browser cache.

One common factor that can affect the speed of your site is your browser cache and cookies. Clearing cache and cookies removes any accumulated data that may be slowing down your site or causing malfunctions.

Tip: To better check the actual loading speed of the site, we recommend doing it in Incognito mode.

Check your Internet connection.

Try opening the site using different Internet networks - e.g. from home, work, Wi-Fi, mobile Internet, etc. Keep in mind that some ISPs may have internet speed limits, which affects the loading speed of the site.

Note: The above two suggestions refer to the actual loading speed of the website. The results of Google PageSpeed Insights and similar tools are practically unaffected.

Optimize the site's header and the block below it.

For the PageSpeed Insights test (and other similar tools), namely for indicators of the mobile version of the site, it is essential that the visible content displayed when opening the site (the header and the first block below it) loads as quickly as possible - the first blocks are loaded first. Therefore, it is advisable to make these blocks “light,” that is, with the least amount of content (especially without large images with a lot of weight). If the second block (after the header and the first block) is also partially viewed after opening the site - say, if the first block is not tall - then it is also advisable to optimize this second block so that it does not contain many images, especially heavy ones. Or activate the switch to stretch the first block to the full height of the screen.

If the loading speed of the desktop (computer) version of the site suits you, but the speed of the mobile version is not, then in order not to edit the block for the desktop, you can create two identical blocks: one for the desktop version, and the other for the mobile version, make a block for the mobile versions with fewer images or with an image with less weight, and then hide each of the blocks from displaying where it is not needed.

Improve your own code and the code of third-party services.

Keep in mind that your own HTML, CSS, JS code can lower your site's performance score, so try to limit its use. You can improve page speed by optimizing your code (by using more concise and technically optimal CSS rule functions, removing spaces and other unnecessary characters, etc.).

Important: Since the above site speed checker services do not have access to the entire code of the builder, they may mistakenly identify this or that code of our editor as unnecessary (although in fact it is important) and, accordingly, erroneously reflect it in the results as an error, which will also have a negative impact on the final score.

Optimize multimedia files.

Weblium automatically optimizes images that you add to the site. However, take into account the number of images you add to the page, as each image takes time to load.

Note: We automatically optimize bitmap images (jpeg, png), but vector images (svg) do not. They are uploaded to the media gallery at their original size.

If you want to improve your site's loading speed, the optimization feature for the background image should be enabled:

Youtube/Vimeo videos can significantly affect site speed. We do not deny the use of video files, but we advise you to consider the number of them.

Tip: If you notice a slow loading video added via YouTube, you can try adding it via Vimeo and vice versa.

To improve the actual loading speed of the site, you can disable the autoplay option for videos that are added as an item:

Update blocks.

To improve the performance of blocks, we release new versions that are instantly available on your site. For the most part, block optimization happens automatically, but occasionally, you'll need to click the Update button in the top right corner of the block to take advantage of these updates:

Limit the use of heavy fonts.

We recommend reducing the number of fonts on the site to two to keep the design consistent and the pages lighter. Site fonts are loaded while the site is open, and a large number of them can slow down the loading of the site.
Keep in mind that custom fonts that you have uploaded to the editor can noticeably slow down your site's loading speed. We do not refuse you to use them, but we recommend you to consider their quantity on the site.

To reduce the actual loading speed of the site, as well as to improve the results of checking the above services, you can disable the option to preload fonts in their settings. To do this, you need to open Site styles, then in the Texts tab, click Advanced settings and move the Font Prender switch to the off position:

How it works:
If this option is disabled, the performance will be better, but in case of a slow internet connection, it may be visually noticeable to replace the browser's default fonts with whatever you have selected.
If enabled, the browser will wait for them to load and will not display the fonts until they are fully loaded.

This feature allows you to choose between visual quality for slow internet devices and the best of PageSpeed Insights or similar services.
