Managing the Text element

Text on a website not only makes pages more informative and user-friendly, but also plays an important role in SEO: properly formatted and structured text helps search engines better understand the content of your site and improves its indexing.

In this article, we will take a detailed look at how to add, configure, and change the appearance of the Text element on your website.

Contents:

Step 1. Adding Text element

Click on the icon for adding a new element and select the Text or Heading element from the list of available elements:

Tip: You can find these elements in the Text section when adding an element. Text is also found as part of other elements, such as Quote or Contacts. In such elements, text settings will be configured in the same way as in the steps described in the following sections.

Note: When working with a Flex block, if you already have text in your clipboard, you can paste it using the key combination Cmd+V (on Mac) or Ctrl+V (on Windows) — it will be automatically added as a text element in the block.

Step 2. Configuring Text element

Important: Some Text element settings, such as adding a specific action, only apply to highlighted text.

Note: Text Rotator element settings work a little differently; you can learn more about this in this article.

By default, in the Site Styles settings, you can configure ten text types, such as Block Title, Heading, Text, etc., which you can then use in your text elements. You can specify the desired font, default size, color, line height, and other parameters for them. You can learn more about these settings in our article.

Next, in the Text element settings, you can choose which type of text to use, depending on your needs. To do this, click on the text and select the desired type from the drop-down list:

The text element will inherit the settings of the selected text type, but there are also parameters that you can customize individually for each element:

① To change the size of the text, highlight it and specify the desired value: you can manually enter the desired size in pixels or use the arrows to increase/decrease it:

Note: you can edit the text size separately for different devices.

② To emphasize a specific part of the text, you can highlight it and activate bold and/or italics for it:

Tip: You can also use the hotkeys Cmd+B and Cmd+I (on Mac) or Ctrl+B and Ctrl+I (on Windows) respectively.

③ You can also change the color of the text by highlighting it and clicking on the color control icon. In the drop-down menu, you can choose:

  • a standard color, in which case the system will automatically select the text color for you, depending on its background;
  • one of the colors from your site's palette;
  • a specific custom color for this element.

Note: you can learn more about setting up your site's palette in our article.

④ In the Text Styles settings, you can additionally set highlighted text to be underlined, strikethrough, and highlighted with color:

Note: through these settings, you can also go to the animation and SEO settings, which we will discuss in more detail later.

⑤ Next, you can set the line height for the entire text element:

⑥ And select the desired alignment:

⑦ You can also convert highlighed text into a bulleted list:

Note: Numbered list formatting is not currently available.

⑧ In the Animations settings, you can set the desired animation for this element when viewing the site:

Note: You can learn more about animation settings in our article.

⑨ The Clear Formatting option allows you to remove all additional styles applied to the text:

⑩ In text settings, you can assign the desired tag to the text to improve the perception of your site's content by search engines:

Note: these settings are not available for every type of text; you can learn more about H1-P tag settings in our article.

Once you have completed all the settings, don't forget to publish your site for the changes to take effect.

Step 3. Adding an action on click

  1. Highlight the text fragment with the left mouse button to which you want to add an action on click, then select Add link and press the gear icon:

  1. Select the desired action from the drop-down list and configure it:

Important: Some Text element settings, such as adding a specific action, apply only to the highlighted text.

Note: You can learn more about configuring click actions for different elements in our article.
