Adding digital products to your online store
Digital products open up new opportunities for online business – you can sell e-books, programs, music, or any other content that can be downloaded as a file.
When you first create digital products, you need to make basic settings, such as connecting any payment system (if you don't already have one) and setting up your email templates to automatically send your customers a link to the product they purchased.
We also recommend that you create a thank-you page where the customer can also download the purchased product.
To create a digital product, open your website settings and go to the Products section, click on Add product, and select Digital product from the drop-down list:
Enter information about your product – name ①, price ②, SKU ③ – and add files or a link ④ that the customer can receive after the purchase:
Important: The following file formats are available for uploading – doc, docx, txt, rtf, pdf, epub, fb2, fb3, jpeg, jpg, png, mobi, djvu, mp3, mp4, mpeg, xls, zip, xlsx. The size of one file may not exceed 25 MB.
Note: You can upload up to five files per product.
Below, you can add a Product preview image ⑤ that will be displayed to your customers on the product page and in the catalog as a preview of the digital product. Also, if necessary, specify a Description ⑥:
Tip: As an image, you can select a part of the digital product to preview (for example, the cover and first pages of a book or promotional materials for this product) - something that will illustrate your product.
Click on Save to finish creating your product:
Note: In order for the product to be displayed on the pages of your website, don't forget to set the status to "Published" in the visibility settings.
Important: To sell digital products, a payment system must be connected to your store. The Manual payment method will not be displayed in the shopping cart if there are digital products in it.
Note: If only digital products are added to the cart, connected shipping methods will not be displayed.
In your website settings, in the Payment methods section, you can connect one or more payment systems of your choice, such as Stripe, PayPal, Klarna, etc. to your cart.
You can find a full list of integrations and connection instructions in the corresponding section.
Note: To ensure that customers have access to the purchased product, we recommend that you use this method.
Important: The download link in the email will be active for 24 hours.
In your store settings, in the Client emails tab, you can set up sending emails when customers pay for an order.
Select the Paid Orders option so that emails are sent only after payment is confirmed:
Customize a template for orders with digital products:
Tip: You can also have separate templates for orders that include physical products or combined orders.
The email received by the customer will look like this:
Important: If you have previously changed the content of your cart, we recommend that you make sure that the “Email” field in your cart is required so that customers always enter their email address to auto-send digital products there. The article on editing your shopping cart will help you with this.
You can also create a thank-you page with the Order summary element where the customer can download the purchased file.
To do this, add the Order summary element to your thank-you page in the place you need using the Add element button:
After creating the thank-you page, copy the link to it in the editor near the publish button or directly from the published site. Then, in the Payment methods section of the site settings, go to the settings of the payment system you are using and paste this link into the Success redirect URL field.
Important: Please note that after the order is placed, the link will be available only for 24 hours or until the customer clears the cache.
You can also customize whether or not a Digital Product label is present on the product page:
Note: You can change the text of this label in the Multilingual settings section. There, open the “Your store” tab and in the list of terms to translate, you will see the “Digital product label” field.
Tip: You can learn more about editing the product page in our article.
Tip: You can also add a label with the text "Digital product" or another text of your choice in the product settings. This label will be displayed in the product card on your website pages.
